Processing is the stage that typically follows grinding, if the application calls for it. In this phase, minerals have been crushed and ground, and are fed into flotation cells, thickeners, aggregated tanks, clarifiers, and filters where chemical reagents and agitation are used to extract and concentrate the target element or product. Tailings, waste rock, are then pumped into dewatering equipment such as a filter press, belt press, or centrifuge, after initial dewatering in a thickener and/or clarifier. Agitators, mixers, and tanks are commonly needed in this phase to properly mix slurry and reagents.
